Sanibel Historical Museum and Village

Sanibel Historical Museum and Village, located on Dunlop Road, is an excellent way to experience and understand the history of Sanibel Island. This charming and unique museum is a collection of nine historic buildings moved from their original sites and restored to their original state. The oldest of the nine buildings dates back to 1896 and is the Sanibel School for White Children. There is also the first Bailey’s General Store, the Sanibel Packing House, and the old post office! Each building has a different story to tell and offers a better understanding of Sanibel’s history and, how the islands developed. The museum also has created a Sanibel Heritage Trail. Download the map and take an adventure around the island. There are 18 spots that have panels explaining the different parts of Sanibel’s history.
