The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW)

Visit CROW on Sanibel, the Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife. An amazing animal hospital dedicated to saving wildlife in Southwest Florida. CROW is also an education center and a teaching hospital. CROW cares for all native wildlife including migratory birds. They provide emergency care, surgery, and long-term rehabilitation. When you visit CROW on Sanibel you truly develop an appreciation for wildlife.

CROW was founded in 1968 by Sanibel resident Shirley Walter. She has found a bird (Royal Tern) that had been hit by a car on the causeway and, unable to find services that could help she took the bird home. A small group of volunteers joined Shirley and together they formed CROW. In the first year, over 500 calls were made pertaining to sick animals. The late Dr. Phylliss Douglass was the first vet to assist CROW. In 1972, CROW was incorporated as a non-profit organization.

CROW has expanded vastly. They have a teaching hospital that has a variety of student programs. The students dedicate many hours to helping over 5,000 wildlife patients that CROW treats a year.  They also have over 200 volunteers. The volunteers commit thousands of hours helping rescue and care for the patients.

CROW also has a robust education program. They have onsite programs, field trips, outreach events, and a variety of other learning projects. These programs help raise awareness and compassion for nature. They have an onsite Visitor Education Center that has interactive exhibits and videos with daily presentations and live camera feeds to the hospital intake room and the outdoor rehabilitation enclosures.
