Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grill is one of the Sanibel Island restaurants with a rich history and intriguing back story!
Founded in collaboration with author Randy Wayne Wright, the restaurant was inspired by his work Sanibel Flats: A Doc Ford Novel. This was the first in a series of tales about main character Doc Ford and his adventures around the island!

Spoondrift Island Bowls is a great restaurant on Sanibel Island for a quick and healthy bite with an island vibe! One of our personal favorites on the Island!
This local favorite started off at the Sanibel Island Farmers Market and is now open for business at a concrete location! Known for their fresh Poke and Acai bowls, Spoondrift has plenty of options for a build-your-own buffet-style service.
Choose from a variety of bases and toppings to create your own original bowl! Sanibel’s Spoondrift also serves a variety of Boba Teas and Lemonades for the perfect post-beach refreshment.

Traders is the spot to be if you’re looking for a laid-back atmosphere, live entertainment, and spectacular seafood!
With a lively bar scene and friendly staff Trader’s is a Sanibel Island restaurant staple! A few of our favorite cocktails are the Mango Mai Tai and Signature Key Lime Martini! On the Menu look out for mike’s Meatball, macadamia encrusted grouper, and the seared scallops.
Traders offers both indoor and outdoor seating options as well as take-out or curbside pick-up. This restaurant is family-friendly and a great choice for both a late lunch and dinner!

#4 Lazy Flamingo
If you’re looking for the locals, Lazy Flamingo is the place to be. A favorite among Sanibel Island residents and those just over the bridge, this spot is a beloved hangout!
Some of our Lazy Flamingo favorites are the Dead Parrot Wings, perfect for anyone who likes a hot & spicy kick! We love the “cook your catch” service, for those of you who’ve spent the day fishing out on the water. Lastly, you can’t go wrong with the Santiva Sangria, a perfect post-beach refreshment!
There are two locations on the Island, the first just over the Sanibel bridge on Periwinkle Way. The second is further down the Island located near the Captiva bridge, known as the Santiva location!
The staff is wonderful and attentive, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The seating is more limited than some Sanibel restaurants so it can get crowded from time to time!

Timbers Restaurant and Fish Market is one of the best Sanibel Island restaurants with an interesting origin story and a wonderful local feel. Known for the motto “We serve it fresh… or we don’t serve it at all!”

Tipsy Turtle is among our most favorite Sanibel Island restaurants! Not only is the food good but the vibes are great!
This is one of the few places on the Island that has a nightlife scene, open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays if you’re looking to have a few tropical drinks and listen to some live music Tipsy Turtle is the place to be!
Open for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Tipsy Turtle is great for more than a late night out. With a full breakfast menu available from 8am-11pm, their lunch and dinner selection showcases fresh seafood and American bites!

If you’re looking for a fun and fast vibe with burgers, shakes, and fries this is the best place on Sanibel Island!

#11 The Mad Hatter
The Mad Hatter is one of the best Sanibel Island restaurants to enjoy a spectacular dinner! Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the season (November-March).
Taking after Alice and Wonderland’s magical fantasy world, Mad Hatter boasts a whimsical decor paired with fine dining. The views are spectacular and you can almost always catch a Sunset at the right time!
This restaurant is fairly small offering limited outdoor seating and a cozy dining room. Keep in mind only beer and wine are served.

Our favorite thing about Traditions is the fabulous Gulf sunsets, visible from almost any spot in the restaurant! Enjoy a table in the dining area or at the full bar with tables, couches, and bar stools!
The best time to visit for foodies looking to have fun is Monday-Friday 4pm-6pm! During this time enjoy tapas and sunset spirits with fresh seafood and signature cocktails.

Hidden among all the Seafood and American dining spots, 400 Rabbits is an excellent Mexican Restaurant & Tequila bar if you’re looking for something different!
This casual island spot is great for food and drinks! Serving some of the best Margaritas on the island, complemented wonderfully by their choices of Tacos, Fajitas, Burritos, and more!
Prices are fairly expensive but the portions are large! This is a great place for groups and families looking to snack, share, and drink! 400 Rabbits offers a wide selection of Tequilas, offering flights for tasting, and a menu full of margaritas.
This restaurant is family friendly, there is a kids menu available, and the services is wonderful! Outdoor and Indoor seating are both readily available.
