Welcome to pet-friendly Sanibel Island where dogs are allowed! If you are traveling with your furry friends, we would encourage you to come to Sanibel where dogs are allowed and greeted with open arms!
There are many pet-friendly options on Sanibel for accommodation, dining, and beach time!
It should be noted that dogs are not particularly welcome on Captiva.
Dogs are not allowed on any of the beaches or in South Seas Island Resort and ‘Tween Waters Island Resort has a very strict pet policy,
Are Dogs Allowed on Sanibel Beaches?
Dogs are allowed at ALL Sanibel Island beaches! They must be on a leash no longer than 8 feet and be cleaned up after.
Among pet lovers, it is claimed that Algiers Beach/Gulfside City Park and Bowman’s Beach, are the best for dogs.

Finding pet-friendly accommodation can be a struggle and pet fees can be very expensive.
There are several places that accommodate pets on Sanibel including many of the rental properties.
It is important to check your rental agreement or, call any potential place you may stay for their individual policies as these can be very different.
However, there are a few dog parent places listed below!

Tarpon Bay Explorers – Yes! Your dog can go kayaking with you!
Bonita Dog Beach Park – Not on Sanibel but, this is a beach where your dog can run off-leash and meet some other dog buddies!
Bike Paths – There are 25 miles of shared use paths on Sanibel where you can walk your dog.
They’re often quite crowded with bikers so use caution if you are walking your dog and always use a leash (non-retractable).
