Take a journey to Picnic Island, a small little island between Sanibel and Punta Rassa, it truly is a wonderful place for a secret picnic.

Take a journey to a small, secluded place called Picnic Island. Picnic Island is located at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River, northeast of the Sanibel Causeway. This beautiful manmade piece of land is a spoil island created as a by-product of channel dredging. It is a wonderful space with mangrove forests and an unspoiled beach, a true treasure. It is a terrific place for a quiet picnic, fishing, and hiking. It is one of the only places in the area you can make a fire, it’s fantastic for camping and of course, sunset.  There are no facilities so no water, electricity or bathrooms. Picnic Island is only accessible by boat, kayak, or jetski.
 
If you do have a boat, the nearest ramps to Picnic Island available for public use are the Punta Rassa boat ramp next to the entrance to the Sanibel Causeway. There is another ramp on the Sanibel side of the causeway to the left.
