The Historic Thistle Lodge Restaurant
The lodge was founded in the 1890s as an inn by Reverend George Barnes. The inn was part of the Sister’s Hotel which later became Casa Ybel Resort. One of Reverend Barnes’ daughters married a hotel guest who built her a grand manor which became the Thistle Lodge. It became a hugely popular spot for celebrities and statesmen including Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. Reverend Barnes also created the historic Sanibel Island Cemetery.
